A non-reductionist approach to face perception

Andrea Bucci

This brief paper illustrates how the facial recognition activity characteristic of the inferotemporal areas of the human visual cortex can be approached from a non-reductionist perspective. I argue that our perspective on brain activity should change, and I explain why considering a transcendent component in specific brain functions, such as the construction and recognition of faces, could influence the organization of neural circuits and their activation.
